LOS ANGELES — The Latest on the memorial for slain rapper Nipsey Hussle, which is being held at Los Angeles' Staples Center and will be followed by a 25-mile procession through the streets of South Los Angeles (all times local):

7:40 p.m.

The "Victory Lap" of Nipsey Hussle's funeral procession has ended.

A silver hearse carrying Hussle's remains has pulled in to the Angelus Funeral Home after a 25-mile procession through the city that started following the rapper's memorial service at the Staples Center earlier Thursday.

Tens of thousands of people took to the streets to catch a glimpse of the procession. The hearse stopped outside Hussle's The Marathon clothing store, giving fans gathered there additional time to mourn the rapper.

Hussle was killed March 31 outside The Marathon.

Last year he hit new heights with "Victory Lap," his critically acclaimed major-label debut album on Atlantic Records that made several critics' best-of lists and earned him a Grammy nomination.

The procession of Nipsey Hussle's casket through the streets of Los Angeles has arrived and paused at the slain rapper's clothing store.

A silver hearse carrying Hussle's casket stopped outside The Marathon clothing store after being on the road for more than three hours on its 25-mile trek through the city. Thousands of people had gathered at the shop to pay tribute to the rapper, who was fatally shot outside the store on March 31.

Hussle founded his The Marathon and planned it to be the anchor of a revitalization effort for the area where he grew up.

Some onlooked threw flowers on top of the roof of the hearse as it inched through the crowd.

Crowds are flooding the streets to view the procession of Nipsey Hussle's casket through Los Angeles.

Hussle's body is being carried in a silver hearse that is flanked by motorcyles — both those of police and bikers and ATVs. Footage aired by Fox affiliate KTTV showed some of the bikes doing wheelies as the procession traveled down Vermont Avenue, one of the city's major thoroughfares.

A crowd of people briefly blocked the procession before the hearse was able to find an opening and pull through.

The 25-mile procession will wind its way through the streets of South Los Angeles, including a trip past Hussle's clothing store, The Marathon, where he was gunned down March 31.

Nipsey Hussle's memorial service has ended with a video tribute to the rapper and his casket being carried out of Los Angeles' Staples Center.

Pallbearers including Hussle's younger brother Samiel Asghedom carried the casket out of the 21,000-seat arena. It will soon begin a 25-mile procession through the streets of Los Angeles.

The rapper was eulogized by several family members and Pastor Shep Crawford, who told mourners that Hussle managed to unite groups that are historically opposed to one another, including the Crips and Bloods gangs and the police and "the hood."

Crawford told the crowd that Hussle "now lives in you."

The rapper, who was fatally shot outside his clothing store, The Marathon, on March 31, was remembered during Thursday's memorial for his efforts to lift his community as he was for his music.

This post and one from 11:50 a.m. have been corrected to show that Hussle brother's first name is Samiel, not Samuel.

Nipsey Hussle's fiancee, actress Lauren London, has shared with the world a private text she sent him.

She told the crowd at the rapper's memorial at Staples Center in Los Angeles on Thursday that before he awoke one morning in January, she poured out through her phone what he meant to her.

She said she told him through sickness and through fears he "encouraged, surprised" and "urged me to reach higher." She says she told him he was the "coolest guy in the world," and said he was "my turn-up and my church."

She told the crowd, "We lost someone very rare to us. We lost a real one. We won't ever be the same."

Looking up and speaking directly to Hussle, she said, "I love you with all this earth, and until we meet again, the marathon continues."

The crowd roared in applause.

Nipsey Hussle's mother and his brother have eulogized the slain rapper with tender anecdotes.

Samiel Asghedom recounted how he, Hussle and other young men would mow lawns and do other chores around their neighborhood. Asghedom says while he and others would work for hours to earn $15, his older brother would end the day with a couple hundred dollars.

He also recounted how Hussle was able to purchase the shopping center where his The Marathon clothing store is based, ending the threat of eviction. He says his brother put his "heart and his soul" in the center and his death "really don't make sense."

Hussle's mother, Angelique Smith, recounted how as a young boy Hussle was able to quickly track down firefighters to put out an engine fire in their vehicle. Even after the fire was out, the engine started up and they were able to keep driving.

Smith said after recounting the incident: "We're burning, but we're not destroyed."

11:15 a.m.

A letter from former president Barack Obama extolling the virtues of Nipsey Hussle has been read at the slain rapper's funeral.

The letter from Obama said he had never met the rapper, but had "heard his music through my daughters" and he later learned about Hussle's transformation and efforts to transform his South Los Angeles community.

He praised Hussle's vision, saying the rapper and community activist saw potential and hope in the Crenshaw neighborhood he grew up in and that lured him into a gang as a young man. Obama's letter states that Hussle "saw a community that even through its flaws taught him to always keep going."

The letter states Hussle's legacy is worth celebrating and Obama says he hopes Hussle's efforts inspire "more good work in Crenshaw and communities like it."

Emotion, tears as Messi retires from Argentina national team

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — Lionel Messi brought the curtain down on his 21-year international career on Tuesday, bidding farewell to adoring Argentina fans in an emotional final appearance for the former world champions in Buenos Aires. In a perfectly scripted finale, the 39-year-old widely regarded as the greatest football player in history signed off with his 126th international goal in front of 85,000 supporters as Argentina cruised to a 3-0 victory over Benin. Messi, playing in his record-extending 208th international, also provided the assist for the opening goal scored by veteran Nicolas Otamendi, with Nico Paz also scoring. But the match was a footnote to the occasion itself, which saw Messi savoring the adulation of the Monumental Stadium crowd one last time for an event which had been billed as 'The Last Tango'. Beforehand, Messi wiped away tears as the bus carrying him and his Argentina team-mates made its way through crowds of wellwishers en route to the stadium. Messi took the field alongside his three children and received affectionate waves from his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, and his mother, Celia Cuccittini, who were watching from a VIP box. Shortly before kick off, a giant Argentina jersey bearing the word "Gracias" (Thank You) above the football superstar's No.10 was laid out on the pitch as the crowd roared their approval. Messi welled up again as Falklands War veteran Fabio Santana sang the national anthem beside a banner which read -- "The Malvinas are Argentine" -- the same banner held aloft by players after their 2-1 World Cup semi-final win over England. The match was halted in the 10th minute -- in tribute to Messi's famous shirt number -- for a minute-long ovation to the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star. He crowned the occasion with a goal from the penalty spot in the 71st minute. 'Gave it my all' At the final whistle a drone show lit up the night sky above the stadium, showing Messi's image and thanking the eight-time Ballon D'Or-winner for his career. Messi's farewell came two and a half months after Argentina's World Cup final defeat to Spain in New Jersey, where Messi exited in tears after making little impression in an ill-tempered 1-0 loss. "I gave it my all; I have nothing left to give, and besides, there are great young players coming up who deserve their chance," Messi wrote at the time. Before Tuesday's game, the University of Buenos Aires awarded Messi an honorary doctorate in a ceremony at the Argentine Football Association (AFA) headquarters. Messi, who has in the past spoken of his regret at not studying more, expressed pride at the distinction. "To be able to say that I am an honorary doctor!," he joked. Outside the Argentina Football Association headquarters, fans unfurled a huge Argentine flag with his image inscribed "The joy of my life." Former Barcelona team-mate Neymar paid tribute to the departing champion on X. "It's not just Argentina that thanks you, the world thanks you for everything you did for football. Thank you for making me love football even more," he said. Messi remains under contract with Inter Miami until 2028, although following the death of his father, Jorge, two months ago, he revealed he may hang up his boots for good sooner than anticipated. Messi's departure comes four years after his greatest triumph in international football, leading Argentina to victory at the 2022 World Cup to end the country's 36-year wait for a third title, cementing his status as Diego Maradona's heir. "I believe Messi gave everything, absolutely everything, so it doesn't bother me at all that he's leaving. He has more than earned it, let him enjoy himself, let him rest," Cecilia Adriano, 52, told AFP. During his time with the Albiceleste, Argentina won one World Cup, were runners-up twice (Brazil 2014 and North America 2026) and were also crowned Copa America champions in 2021 and 2024.

Revitalized TNT eyes win as PBA Govs’ Cup back in action

MANILA, Philippines — TNT hopes the long conference break will do the team well as the Tropang 5G try to rev up their title-retention bid in the PBA Season 50 Governors' Cup with new import Nick Hornsby in tow against Terrafirma on Wednesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium. Following a long, seven-week break to give way to Gilas’ international tournaments, the PBA resumes, something that may have given TNT the needed long time off considering it started the conference without some of its key players. But in the tournament’s resumption, the Tropang 5G are welcoming back sharp shooter Calvin Oftana and veteran Jayson Castro, while Hornsby got some time to adjust with his teammates. Game time is at 7:30 p.m. with TNT shooting for its fifth win in nine games against Terrafirma, which enters the match with a 3-5 card. Both teams are looking for the all important win that can galvanize their Top Four hopes in Group A. NLEX and San Miguel Beer lead the with their similar 7-2 slates, while Converge occupies solo third 5-4.  Only the Top Four advance to the crossover semifinals against Group B's best. The Tropang 5G welcome the 31-year-old Hornsby, who incidentally will be the team’s third import for the conference after Darius Day and Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson. Hornsby is fresh off a stint with the Hangtuah Jakarta in the Indonesian Basketball League, while also playing previously for the coming off a recent stint with the Edmonton Stingers   in the Canadian Elite Basketball League. Original import choice Rondae Hollis-Jefferson is still unavailable as he continues the road to recovery since sustaining an Achilles injury while playing for Meralco in the EASL last year. "RHJ still rehabbing. Hopefully, he's ready by quarters," TNT team manager Jojo Lastimosa said. Meanwhile, NLEX will be gunning for its eighth win in 10 starts under new coach Jimmy Alapag when the team battles Macau at 5:15 p.m. The Road Warriors have been a revelation under Alapag, even though the former crack TNT and Gilas playmaker was named the team’s new coach, a few weeks before the tournament started. NLEX will unveil new import Deonte Burton as he takes the spot of Dequan Jones, who sustained a conference-ending injury last August. The Road Warriors will be facing a decimated Black Pandas with key players Ramon Cao, Damian Chongqui, Jenning Leung, and import DeVondre Perry - reportedly will no longer be with the team.

Ateneo looks to continue strong start vs La Salle

FACING rival and defending champ De La Salle, Ateneo de Manila looks to continue its strong start in the UAAP Season 89 men's basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena Wednesday. The Blue Eagles face the Green Archers at 6 p.m. in the main event of the day, ticketed separately from the first game between Adamson and National University at 2:30 p.m. Leading Ateneo to a 3-1 start for a share of the standings lead with Far Eastern University, coach Louie Alas emphasized healing for the Eagles rather than focusing on facing their rivals. Ateneo is enjoying a good start including an 87-76 win against NU last Saturday. This follows a gloomy offseason centered on the deaths of players Divine Adili and Rene Baterbonia in a training camp in Dipaculao, Aurora last June. "He's a good coach (coach Topex Robinson). The way we prepared for our previous games, we'll do the same or even prepare harder," said Alas. "Coaching Ateneo is big already. The important thing for me is, like I said, the healing. It's easier to heal when you're winning so that's the big motivation. We'll try to prepare as hard as we can." Alas and Robinson were together in Alaska and Phoenix in the PBA. Now, they lead the protagonists in one of Philippine collegiate basketball's biggest rivalries. “Every, I guess, as a whole, every Ateneo-La Salle game is a different animal," said Robinson, whose team split its season-series against Ateneo last year. "It doesn’t matter where you are at the standings. It doesn’t matter who you’re up against on the other side of the bench. It’s always gonna be something that we always look forward to. "Coach Louie has been part of my growth as a coach as well. We've been together when we were in Alaska. We were together in Phoenix. A lot of my learnings came from him. It's really going to be a very exciting experience for me as a young coach." La Salle is coming off a 112-87 decimation of University of the East last Sunday to snap a 2-game skid and rise to 2-2, tied with NU, UST, and UP from third to sixth places.  Leading the way for Ateneo are rookie and Alas' son Kieffer as well as Jared Bahay who take on the Jacob Cortez and Mason Amos-led La Salle.
