Red Lions claw Pirates for first win in NCAA Season 102

MANILA, Philippines — Defending champion San Beda University defeated Lyceum of the Philippines University, 83-74, for its first win in Group A of the NCAA Season 102 men’s basketball tournament Thursday night at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City. Following their opening day blues against College of Saint Benilde, the San Beda Red Lions were supposed to clash against the 2026 FilOil-EcoOil pre-season champions Jose Rizal University on Friday. However, the game was postponed because the arena was deemed “too moist” to play. Thus, San Beda returned to action after a week and a half.  The Red Lions were led by Lawrence Hawkins who finished with 13 points, 12 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals. Dan Marcelo chipped in 16 points and eight rebounds while Jimuel Reyes and Jomel Puno added 15 and 11 points, respectively for San Beda. San Beda raised its win-loss record to 1-1 while Lyceum Pirates dropped to 1-2. Matthew Rubico led Lyceum with 15 points and five assist, three rebounds, and two steals. Mclaude Guadana and Renz Villegas added 14 and 12 points, respectively. San Beda, meanwhile, will have little time to rest as the Red Lions take on the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers on Saturday at the same venue.

It was South Korea's first gold medal in canoe sprint and ninth overall at the competition. South Korea edged out China by 0.255 seconds, with Japan finishing 3.322 seconds behind the champions. NAGOYA, Japan — Park Hyun-su grabbed bronze in the lightweight men's single sculls rowing event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Thursday for South Korea's first rowing medal here. Park finished third in the 2,000-meter race with a time of 6:53.35 at Nagaragawa International Regatta Course in Aisai, some 20 kilometers west of the main host city Nagoya. Chiu Hin Chun of Hong Kong won the gold in 6:50.32. Amirhossein Mahmoodpour Shahrestani of Iran beat Park over the final stretch for silver in 6:52.59.
