MANILA, Philippines — The UAAP basketball commissioner’s Office has suspended National University assistant coach Paul Du from all basketball-related activities, including 5-on-5 and 3x3 across all divisions, for the remainder of Season 89 following an ugly post-game altercation. The penalty stems from an incident during the traditional handshake line after NU’s match against the University of Santo Tomas on Oct. 10 at the Araneta Coliseum. According to the Commissioner's Office, Du delivered a forceful elbow to UST assistant coach Arsenio Dysangco, sending the opposing mentor crashing to the floor and requiring him to receive medical attention. The suspension takes effect immediately and will sideline Du until the official end of the season. The Commissioner's Office also noted that additional sanctions may still be imposed by the UAAP Board. National University retains the right to appeal the decision. TMT

University of Perpetual Help System Dalta aims for its sixth straight victory when it battles winless Lyceum of the Philippines University in NCAA Season 102 juniors basketball tournament at the FilOil Arena in San Juan City on Tuesday, Oct. 13. Game time is 10 a.m. The team of coach Joph Cleopas opened the season with a setback against the Letran Squires but the Junior Altas responded by winning five straight games for a 5-1 record in Group B, tied with Letran and Emilio Aguinaldo College for first place. Lyceum, on the other hand, is at the bottom of Group A with a 0-6 record. Cloepas will continue to lean on Louie Rosales, who led the team with 21 points in the previous game against the San Beda Red Cubs last Thursday. "We are just following what our coaches tell us—sticking to the system and always giving 100 percent when we step onto the court; even in practice, we give our best to achieve good results," Rosales said. Rosales is expected to get help from Arkin Cristobal, Lord Dulanas, Brian Orca Jr., Kurt Patalinghug and ace rookie Sizco Roquid. Unlike the Junior Altas, however, Perpetual Help’s seniors team has been struggling this season. The Altas have lost their last three games and carry a 2-4 record. They will face the Lyceum Pirates at 5 p.m.
MANILA, Philippines -- Noy Remogat helped lead the way as University of the Philippines defeated last year's Finals tormentor De La Salle, 80-76, in the UAAP Season 89 men's basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena Sunday. Remogat fired a season-high 20 points including the insurance free throw in the last five seconds for the Fighting Maroons who held off the Green Archers fightback in the final canto. Asked if he's performance is fueled by thirst for revenge after last year's Finals heartbreak against La Salle, Remogat said he simply wanted to steady the ship for UP which snapped a 2-game skid. "I don't really have that hunger for revenge from last year," said Remogat. "After those last two losses, there’s something I want to achieve as a person and something we want to achieve as a team and that is to bounce back from those two losses and string together some wins." Remogat and the Fighting Maroons improved to 3-2 for a share of third place in the standings with the Adamson Soaring Falcons. UP looks to break that tie with Adamson on Wednesday and get a win run going. "We should set the tone in our practices," said Remogat. “But it wasn’t just me (today). Jacob (Bayla), James (Payosing) and our other leaders, Gani (Stevens) and Veejay (Pre), really stepped up, and the team responded.” Pre stepped up, indeed, and backstopped Remogat. The 6-foot-4 forward banged 19 points, seven rebounds, and three assits.
