Studycat outlines how its ad-free, kidSAFE-listed environment responds to parent expectations for a safe kids French language iOS app, drawing on family feedback and recurring app store review themes.

Hong Kong, China, October 16, 2026 -- HONG KONG, HK — Studycat, a developer of language-learning apps for early learners, today outlined how its ad-free, kidSAFE-listed environment responds to what parents say they expect from a kids' French language iOS app. The company based its summary on family feedback and recurring themes in App Store reviews. The announcement clarifies which safety and privacy features are in place for children aged 2 to 8 who use Studycat French on Apple devices.

Parents choosing educational software for young children often weigh safety alongside learning outcomes. Review themes collected by Studycat show that families commonly raise the same concerns: whether a child will encounter advertising, whether the content is age-appropriate, and whether a child can use the app without adult supervision at every step. In the United States, the Federal Trade Commission enforces the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, which governs how children’s data may be collected, and this is one reason many families look for visible safety markers before installing an app.

Studycat French is built around an ad-free environment, so children don't see third-party ads while they play. The app carries a kidSAFE listing, a designation associated with children’s online privacy and safety practices, and the company states that all content is appropriate for ages 3 and up. Lessons are short, interactive games that cover vocabulary, pronunciation, and listening comprehension, supplemented by stories, songs, and printable worksheets.

The app is designed for independent use, with no reading required and spoken guidance that lets young children move through activities on their own. Parents can add up to four learner profiles and review progress through personalized learner reports and weekly learning reports. The progress dashboard displays badges when a lesson has been completed. Subscriptions work across iOS and Android devices, and the app is free to download with a limited set of activities and topics, along with a seven-day free trial that requires no credit card.

Studycat also offers a speech feature called Voiceplay, which lets children speak to play and receive pronunciation feedback. The feature runs entirely on the device, requires no internet connection, and does not upload or store voice data. It is currently available in Studycat English and Studycat Spanish only. “Parents tell us they want a French app their child can open without worrying about ads or what happens to their child’s data, and the feedback we review has shaped how we describe our safety approach,” said the Head of Communications at Studycat.

About Studycat: Studycat develops language-learning apps for children aged 2 to 8, with separate apps for English, Spanish, French, German, and Chinese, along with supplemental worksheets, stories, songs, and a platform for schools. The company says more than 16 million families use its products and that its work has been recognized at the 2026 Bett Awards and the 2025 LearnX and EdTech Awards. Studycat is headquartered in Hong Kong.

Yolanda Hopkins upsets World No. 3 Gabriela Bryan to reach WSL Championship Tour Philippines Pro quarterfinals

MANILA, Philippines —  World No. 14 Yolanda Hopkins pulled off a major reversal, knocking out World No. 3 Gabriela Bryan to advance to the quarterfinals of the inaugural World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour Philippines Pro at the iconic Cloud 9 reef break in Siargao on Saturday. Hopkins came through in Heat 2 of the women's competition, posting a combined score of 10.10 from waves worth 5.27 and 4.83 to eliminate the highly-ranked American and arrange a quarterfinal showdown with World No. 6 Caitlin Simmers in the event presented by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), with the support of Surigao del Norte Gov. Robert Lyndon Barbers, General Luna Mayor Johnson Sajulga and Vice Mayor Romina Sajulga. Bryan, finished ninth with a total of 7.00, combining scores of 4.00 and 3.00 to collect 2,000 championship points. The competition unfolded under four- to six-foot waves, giving the world's best surfers challenging conditions to display their skills, while calm winds helped maintain a steady lineup. Also making her way into the quarterfinals was Simmers, who dominated fellow American and World No. 11 Caroline Marks in their opening-round encounter. Simmers posted an impressive 15.17 on a 9.00 and a 6.17. Marks could only managed 9.00 from waves scoring 5.50 and 3.50 and likewise settled for ninth place with 2,000 championship points. Beyond her impressive performance, Simmers expressed her admiration for Cloud 9, describing the famed Siargao break as one of her favorite surfing destinations because of the technical challenges and opportunities it offers.  “Honestly, I keep telling people it's one of my favorite waves on the planet because it's just really tight, and you kind of have to do some exciting things in the spaces you get. It's pretty hard to just do your stock-standard couple of turns on it,” said Simmers. The American explained that Cloud 9 demands creativity and precise timing, as its changing sections can force surfers to adjust their approach while looking for opportunities to execute difficult maneuvers. She also singled out the wave's end section as a promising spot for aerial moves, expressing hope that the world's top female surfers would take advantage of the opportunity to showcase their skills. “I think I'm just hoping all the girls do airs because these are the best surfers in the world, best women in the world. And I know every single one of them can do an air on that end section. It's just a matter of timing, really,” she said. Simmers believes the challenging but rewarding nature of Cloud 9 could produce spectacular performances as the competition progresses, particularly with the world's best women surfers battling for a place in the next round. The event is also supported by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), Department of Tourism (DOT), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), and NEA/SIARELCO. Delos Santos sets new junior world records in Ningbo

MANILA, Philippines — Albert Ian Delos Santos finished out of the podium in the 2026 IWF World Weightlifting Championships, but delivered a promising performance by shattering two junior world records in the men’s 70-kilogram (kg) division in Ningbo, China. The 20-year-old Asian Junior champion came off a bronze finish in the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, and was not over in setting new records as he eclipsed his previous world junior record He lifted a total of 331kg, built on 144kg in the snatch and 187kg in the clean and jerk. to surpass his previous total lift of 324kg that he made in the Asian Games. He also eclipsed his own record in the clean and jerk of 183kg. To put the 331 kg total into perspective, it is almost equivalent to the weight of a standard grand piano, an average commercial soda vending machine, or about 11 golden retrievers. First Filipina Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz formerly lauded Delos Santos and knew that he was meant to reach greater heights “Ian is one of our future Olympian gold medalist in the Philippines, as you can see he’s a junior world record holder, then he won here at 20 years old, competing in Asian Games, and it’s his first time,” Diaz told the media during Delos Santos bronze finish in Asiad.   “He is one of a kind, and I can’t describe how brave he is,” she added. North Korea took the top two spots, with Pak Pyol winning gold with a world-record total of 355 kilograms, while Ri Won Ju took silver with 343 kg, and China’s He Baozhen rounded out the podium with bronze, lifting 339 kg. Although he fell short of a medal, Delos Santos delivered one of the competition’s standout performances, improving his own junior records against some of the world’s top lifters. Delos Santos is expected to move up to the 75-kilogram category for the IWF qualifying competition in Qatar in December as he continues his international campaign.
