Sep 12, 2023

It gives Emphasis Records great pleasure to announce that Stevie Hawkins, our legendary blues and soul music artist, has won the Best Blues Artist award at the Indie Music Channel Awards in Hollywood.

Atlanta, Georgia Sep 11, 2023 (Issuewire.com) - On September 3, 2023, the "Hang On To A Dream Theater" in Hollywood, California, was filled with anticipation and excitement. Independent artists, songwriters, VIP guests, and representatives from the global music, film, and television industries were in attendance. As the red carpet closed, the nominees and dignitaries made their way inside to find out who would triumph in the 11th Annual Indie Music Channel Awards.

Stevie Hawkins, a blues music master artist, prevailed, winning the "Best Blues Artist" award for the performance of his blues/soul composition entitled "Lonely No More", co-written by Charlotte Hannon, Hawkins' longtime songwriting collaborator. The award recipients were selected by a world-wide panel of judges comprised of A&R personnel, DJs, and music industry professionals.

"I'd like to congratulate Stevie Hawkins on his award win for Best Blues Artist. He is among the best of the best. He is humble, an artist of integrity, and sets the standard for maintaining pure honesty in traditional blues and soul music," declared Dr. Gerald Murray, the head of Gerald Murray Music LLC, Hawkins' management and booking agency located in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. "Gerald Murray Music is proud to represent this incredibly gifted, multi-talented artist for concert engagements both nationally and internationally," Murray concluded.

"Lonely No More" is a featured song on Hawkins' Emphasis Records album release entitled "High Times". The album features Stevie Hawkins on lead vocals, drums, percussion, piano, organ, and harmonica, as well as the producer and engineer of the album.

Hawkins said, "I'd like to extend a sincere thank you to Christopher Ewing, Emmy Award winning TV host, actor, model, and Indie Music Channel founder, and the panel of judges located around the world who honored me with the distinction of the "Best Blues Artist" award amid a range of both female and male blues artist contenders. Congratulations to my co-writer of Lonely No More, Charlotte Hannon, and to all nominees and winners of the Indie Music Channel awards. We, as creators of music, share a duty and a responsibility to reach out and share with others our love, our experiences, thoughts, emotions, happiness, our passion, and our pain. Music is a deeper revelation than all wisdom and all philosophies. Life is maintained by music, the cosmos has a spirit, intelligence has wings, imagination soars and creates reality. So, I say to everyone, follow your dreams and aspirations, believe in yourself, remain confident and be assertive in everything you do, and never give up, no matter what you do. Every individual is unique and wonderful."

Stevie Hawkins is a recipient of previous Indie Music Channel awards. Among those awards are: "Best Blues Artist", "Best Live Blues Performance", "Best Blues Producer", "Best Songwriter (Blues)", "Best Live Performance (Rock)", "Producer of the Year", and "Artist of the Year".

"Hawkins' remarkable career has now spanned 40 years as a singer, songwriter, musician, producer, and drummer for national and international major recording artists. Stevie Hawkins embodies the tradition of the great blues artists of the past, but he is also a role model for the next generation of true blues artists in terms of artistic and creative development. Not only is he one of the most expressive singers and drummers of his time, but he's also a talented producer and an accomplished songwriter. So we are very happy to see him receive the recognition and respect he so richly deserves," said Emphasis Records.

The Indie Music Channel Awards is an annual event held in Hollywood, California, and judged by a panel of experts from across the music industry: A&R, production and engineering, artist management, mainstream radio and television, and Grammy-winning artists and producers.

Perpetual scores first win, keeps playoffs hopes alive in SSL Unity Cup

MANILA, Philippines — University of Perpetual Help System DALTA outworked San Beda University in a challenging marathon showdown, 28-30, 25-19, 23-25, 25-17, 16-14, to enter the win column in the 2026 Shakey’s Super League (SSL) Unity Cup on Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.  Jemalyn Menor took over on offense but Cyrille Almeniana delivered the crucial points in the extended deciding set as the Lady Altas bounced back from an opening-day loss. Perpetual tied idle Letran in second to third with a 1-1 win-loss record in Pool A of the league’s centerpiece competition, backed by Shakey’s Pizza Parlor, Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken, Potato Corner and R&B Milk Tea.     “Talagang nagtulungan kami sa loob ng court, pinaghirapan namin talaga ito para maipanalo ‘yung game namin ngayong araw,” said Menor, who led all scorers with 25 points on 23 kills, one ace and one kill block. “Pinush lang kami ni coach (Sandy Rieta) na magtiwala lang kami sa sarili namin and nagtulungan kami sa loob ng court,” she added. It was a tight crawl to the finish line in the fifth frame. The Lady Red Spikers erased the Lady Altas’ two-point lead and knotted it at 13 after Almeniana’s tip-in went wide. She got a point back on a combination play that put Perpetual at matchpoint. Angel Habacon answered with a hit to tie it at 14 before Almeniana put matters in her own hands with the match-clinching back-to-back hits to end the two-hour, 45-minute battle.    Almeniana had 14 points, 13 from attacks, Edel Valdez had 10 markers while Rae Palacio scored eight for the Lady Altas, who had 14 kill blocks and received 45 free points off San Beda’ 45 errors.     Perpetual boosted its chances of joining pool leader five-peat-seeking National University in the next round. The Lady Bulldogs secured a playoffs spot after winning three straight games without dropping a single set. Only the top two teams in each pool will move on to the next phase of the tournament, supported by Smart, PusoP.com DICT, Executive Optical, Milo and Summit Natural Drinking Water.      Last year’s runner-up University of Santo Tomas (2-0) in Pool B, Far Eastern University (2-0) in Pool C and University of the Philippines (2-0) in Pool D are all through to the second stage of the competition, which has Philippine Sports Commission, the Commission on Higher Education, Mikasa, Asics, Rigour Technology, Jersey Haven, Solar Sports and 12 Beyond Production as technical partners. The Lady Red Spikers suffered a second straight defeat in as many starts. Habacon had 16 points on 13 spikes, two kills blocks and an ace, Daisy Cagas finished with 12 markers while Jermaine Joniega and Aiezel Parumog added nine each for the Mendiola-based squad. Games continue on Friday with Letran taking on San Beda at 1 p.m. followed by the 3 p.m. clash between Jose Rizal University and College of Saint Benilde. NU closes its pool play campaign against Perpetual at 5 p.m.     All games are available live and on demand via PusoP.com and Solar Sports. TMT
