MotoGP adds two new circuits in calendar shake-up for 2027

PARIS, France — MotoGP has added two new circuits in Argentina and Australia for the 22-race 2027 calendar, announced on Friday. The season is scheduled to open in Buriram, Thailand, on March 7 and to end in Valencia, in Spain on November 28. The first new track will be in Buenos Aires in April, the second leg of a three-race American swing that starts with Goiania in Brazil, which staged its first race this season, and finishes in Austin, Texas. The second addition is a street circuit in Adelaide, on November 14 at the end of a five-race late-season swing down through Asia to Australia. The Autodromo Oscar y Juan Galvez in Buenos Aires replaces Termas de Hondo, more than 1,100 kilometers inland from the capital. That circuit was on and off the MotoGP calendar between 2014 and its last appearance in 2025. Buenos Aires last hosted races in 1999. In Australia, Phillip Island near Melbourne has hosted races since 1989, but its contract expires after this season and the Victoria State Government rejected a plan by MotoGP to move the race to the track used by Formula One in Albert Park in the heart of the city. The race in Adelaide, which will require laying track in parklands, has met with local opposition. Hungary has been dropped from the schedule after just two years. MANILA, Philippines — Justine Gumbao and Julius Otoc stamped their class in the Palawan Pawnshop's Kidapawan City Juniors Age-Group Tennis Championships, powering to a combined six titles and emerging as the standout performers of the week-long Group 2 tournament at the Kidapawan courts. Gumbao was particularly dominant, sweeping the girls’ 14-and-under and 16-and-U singles crowns before adding two doubles titles for a rare four-title haul. The top seed in the girls’ division overwhelmed Chandra Felecio, 6-1, 6-3, in the 14-and-U final, then returned to the court to dispatch Marxian Sira, 6-1, 6-0, for the 16-and-U championship. She dropped just 11 games in six singles matches across the two age groups, underlining the gap she created over the field with her aggressive shot-making and relentless pressure. NAGOYA, Japan — South Korea won its third consecutive Asian Games silver medal in the women's team regu sepaktakraw event on Friday. South Korea lost to the mighty Thailand 2-0 at Nagoya City Mizuho Park Gymnasium in Nagoya, central Japan. It was South Korea's third consecutive loss to Thailand in an Asiad women's team regu final. Thailand ran its women's team regu gold medal-winning streak to five. Regu matches feature three players per team: a striker, feeder and tekong, or server. In the first match, South Korea lost 2-0 (15-13, 15-5) after failing to hold on to a 13-12 lead in the first set. South Korea fell 2-0 (15-7, 15-6) in the next match to hand the gold medal to Thailand. TOKYO — South Korea grabbed silver in the team dressage event in equestrian at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Friday, returning to the podium after being shut out of a medal three years ago.
