Executive Summary

Luxury resale refers to the buying and selling of the previously-owned luxury goods. In the past few years, the sale of the pre-owned luxury goods has been increasing very rapidly and the stigma associated with the consumption of the second-hand luxury is disappearing. In contrast with the new luxury, pre-owned luxury is usually less expensive and have some traces of wear-and-tear. It has also been suggested that the buyers of the second-hand luxury are not necessarily poor, in fact they are either value-conscious consumers or fashion-conscious consumers.

The benefits of buying and selling of second-hand luxury goods are: money saving, saving of environment, supporting local business, discovering new brands and buying something new. The luxury resale market can be segmented on the basis of channel and type.

The global luxury resale market has increased at a significant CAGR during the years 2016-2019 and projections are made that the market would rise in the next four years i.e. 2021-2025 tremendously. The luxury resale market is expected to increase due to growing millennial population, increasing middle class population and spending, soaring urban population, escalating internet users, etc. Yet the market faces some challenges such as lack of trust in buying second-hand luxury, e-commerce fraud, lack of awareness, etc.

Eala aiming to finish season with bang after Tokyo exit

TOKYO — Philippines sensation Alexandra Eala lost in the quarter-finals in Tokyo on Friday and said she had "high motivation" to finish her breakthrough season with a bang next week in Hong Kong. Eala lost 2-6, 7-6 (7/5), 6-4 against Russian number three seed Diana Shnaider in her debut appearance at the Pan Pacific Open. The world number 19 has one more tournament left in a season that saw her become the first player from the Philippines to win a title on the women's WTA Tour in Washington in August. Eala will be among the favorites for the title in Hong Kong, and she said she was not in the mood to look back on her achievements yet. "I'm super excited, and I'm going in with high motivation," said the 21-year-old. "I'm trying to put my reflections off for one more week because of said motivation. Check back in a week." Eala won five straight games to take control of the first set, but the second set was a far closer affair. Neither player managed to break their opponent's serve, but world number 13 Shnaider edged the tie-breaker. Shnaider went a break up early in the third set and Eala needed treatment on her right foot before the Russian clinched the match with an ace. Eala said the match had been "a huge battle". "Both of us could take the match to a really, really high level," she said. "I'm proud of that despite the loss, but I do think I had my chances. "Next time, hopefully do better in those moments," she added. Eala was again backed by a large, passionate group of Philippines fans. She was playing in Japan for the second time in two months after reaching the semi-finals at the Asian Games in Nagoya. "To be in front of the crowd and to play in this atmosphere is always super special," she said. "I love Japan as a whole, whether I'm here for tennis or not, so I really had fun." Shnaider will play Mia Pohankova in the semi-finals after the 18-year-old Slovakian beat American Alycia Parks 7-6 (7/3), 6-3. Uzbekistan's Kamilla Rakhimova will play Canada's Leylah Fernandez in the other semi-final. Fernandez advanced when world number one Elena Rybakina withdrew with a neck injury.

Shin’s class shines through in 9-shot ICTSI Apo triumph

DAVAO CITY – Neither the rain-soaked conditions nor Russell Bautista’s early surge could derail Micah Shin’s march to victory as he took firm control of the final round of the ICTSI Apo Golf Classic, cruising to a commanding nine-shot triumph over Sean Ramos here on Friday. Armed with a seven-stroke overnight cushion over Bautista, Shin played with measured aggression despite the softened and demanding conditions, displaying the same resilience that had defined his performances in the previous two rounds, He once again bounced back from every miscue and mishit, birdying Nos. 6 and 8 to offset a shaky bogey-birdie-bogey stretch from No. 2 and keep his round firmly on track. While Bautista showed some fight, carding a solid 33 on the front nine to trim the deficit to five, Shin remained unruffled, cruising through the closing nine holes with the poise, confidence and composure of a champion to leave little doubt about his command of the contest. He and Bautista faltered with bogeys on No. 14, but while Shin bounced back with a birdie on the next hole, Bautista could not find a similar response. Instead, he endured an erratic finish, dropping strokes on each of the next three holes and allowing Shin to pull away for an emphatic victory. He closed with a 70 for a wire-to-wire victory on a 17-under 271 total at the Apo Golf and Country Club. “It was actually quite tough today. I kept hitting the ball to the right and wasn't able to save par on Nos. 2 and 4, which I managed to do in the third round,” Shin said, recalling his early struggles in the challenging conditions. “I wasn't starting well, while Russell was playing really well. I thought that if I didn't pick up my game, things could get a little tricky. I started focusing more on the back nine, although I still wasn't hitting the ball well and couldn't make any birdies. Russell, meanwhile, had a poor finish. But I just kept trying to play my own game and make more birdies. I managed to do that on No. 15 and the final hole, and got the job done,” he added. After an impressive start, Bautista wavered down the stretch, limping home with a 73 for a 281 total. That opened the door for Ramos, who birdied the final hole to shoot a 69 and snatch solo runner-up honors at 280. With the outcome already beyond doubt, Shin must have been tempted to go for a spectacular finish and put an exclamation point on his victory. But even a champion can be tested at the most unexpected moment. From the par-5 18th tee, Shin sent his drive sailing into the rough along the ninth fairway – perhaps the only time all week he had failed to find the fairway. With the tall trees blocking any realistic chance of reaching the green, he wisely abandoned the heroic option and chose to lay up near the ninth green. From there, with the pin some 90 yards away, he took careful aim and unleashed a near-perfect lob shot. The ball landed just on the edge of the green, trickled forward and finally came to rest about seven feet from the cup. The stage was set for one final flourish. With the composure that had defined his remarkable week, Shin calmly rolled in the birdie putt, sending the gallery ringing around the green and the crowd gathered at the clubhouse into a roar of approval. It was a fitting, dramatic finale – a final display of touch, precision and nerves of steel that brought the curtain down on a week of breathtaking shotmaking and sheer dominance. “Very far right and long. And I went in between Nos. 9 and 18, and I was in the rough. I had no shot, I mean, I had a shot on 18, but I had to leave it about like 100, maybe 50 to 70 yards and it was like the pin was all the way in the back, so it was too tough. So, I looked right, and then there was like a huge gap, so I just hit it right and had a good shot into near the ninth,” said Shin. The victory also provided a fitting bookend to Shin's 2026 Philippine Golf Tour campaign. After opening the season with a triumph at The Country Club Invitational, the PGT’s flagship event, last January, he closed it out with another title, pocketing the top purse of P534,000. Clyde Mondilla, fresh from his victory at South Pacific last week, matched par 72 to finish fourth at 283, followed by Elee Bisera, who shot a 70 for 284. Dino Villanueva fired the day's best round of 68 to charge into solo sixth at 285. Guido van der Valk fumbled with a 74 to drop to seventh at 286, while Angelo Que carded a 71 for eighth at 287. Alex Bisera matched par 72 to tie for 11th at 289 with Jacob Rolida, who rallied with two birdies over the final six holes to salvage a 74. Bisera, however, claimed the low amateur honors via countback, denying Rolida back-to-back victories after the latter topped the South Pacific leg. Heavy overnight rains had forced a delay in the start of the final round, allowing the course to recover and the maintenance crew to attend to areas affected by the downpour. But the interruption did little to disrupt Shin's rhythm, as the Korean-American remained firmly in control from start to finish. Shin's nine-shot romp fell way short of the 12-shot margin posted by Lloyd Go over Jeffren Lumbo at the Pinewoods crown last July. Still, it was a clinical display of dominance, even if the champion himself felt he was far from playing his best golf. “It's always fun playing here because there are so many talented players, like Russell. He's very talented. I think he just needs to get the job done once, and then he'll probably win a few more,” Shin said of his final-round rival. Despite enjoying the advantage of playing on familiar home-course territory and carrying a substantial lead into the final round, Shin admitted that he put unnecessary pressure on himself by trying too hard to deliver an entertaining performance for the home fans. “I had a big lead and, to be honest, playing at my home course was an advantage. But I got off to a bad start because I was trying to play too well. I just wanted to set a target score for the day and give the fans a show, make it a fun game. I think that was one of the reasons I put too much pressure on myself,” he said. In hindsight, the outcome was hardly surprising. Making the most of a rare Philippine Golf Tour appearance after receiving an invitation to compete at Apo, Shin wasted little time establishing his authority, combining intimate knowledge of the course with the class and firepower that have made him a regular contender on the Asian Tour. Even the presence of fellow Asian Tour campaigners Ramos and Justin Quiban could not derail his early charge. Both carried impressive credentials into the event, but neither could keep pace with Shin's blistering opening rounds, leaving them chasing him throughout the week. TMT
