Letran edges San Sebastian, keeps Stags winless in NCAA

MANILA, Philippines — Colegio de San Juan de Letran denied San Sebastian College-Recoletos a chance to crack into the win column, escaping with a 91-89 victory in the NCAA Season 102 men’s basketball tournament on Friday afternoon at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City. The Knights improved to 7-3 and remained atop Group B, while the Golden Stags dropped to 0-10. Unlike their first-round meeting, which Letran dominated 99-62, the Knights were forced to work much harder in the rematch. With Letran leading 86-83 and 1:04 remaining in the game, Vincent Segovia drained a fadeaway jumper and Christian Ricio followed with a layup to give San Sebastian an 87-86 edge. Aaron Buensalida immediately answered with a layup of his own with 38 seconds remaining, and Nathaniel Montecillo converted both free throws to put Letran back in front, 89-87. Niel Castro then tied the game at 89-all with a jumper with seven seconds left. But Letran head coach Allen Ricardo drew up a final play for Jimboy Estrada, who knocked down a jumper with two seconds remaining to seal the 91-89 win. “Of course, during the dying seconds of the game, you go to your go-to guy. I trusted Jimboy and he delivered,” Ricardo said. “We had lapses in the game. San Sebastian also improved its transition threes, and we became a bit lousy. So in those final seconds, we went to Jimboy.” Chad Gammad led Letran with 23 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Buensalida stepped up in the absence of veteran Kevin Santos, finishing with 21 points and six rebounds. Estrada added 14 points, while Froilan Reyes chipped in 13. Caesleyh Bacani paced San Sebastian with 24 points, while John Ynot and Segovia contributed 16 and 13 points, respectively.

SportsPlus surprises Asian Games medalists with latest iPhone models

MANILA, Philippines -- To recognize their achievements, SportsPlus awarded 53 of the latest iPhone models to Filipino medalists at the recently concluded 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan. The country’s premier PAGCOR-licensed sportsbook and Official Partner of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), SportsPlus, said the initiative reflects its commitment to supporting Filipino athletes as they pursue excellence and to recognizing their accomplishments. “SportsPlus is thrilled to have surprised our beloved athletes with these smartphones,” SportsPlus President & CEO Andre Uy stated. “Our brand takes great pride in these initiatives as we join the nation in celebrating their success and recognizing the hard work and dedication behind every medal.” The iPhone giveaway took place during the POC General Assembly on October 22 at a luxury restaurant in Parañaque, where representatives of the Philippine sports community gathered. “All the athletes that won a medal here are so happy to get a new iPhone 18 model through the help of SportsPlus, and we are all thankful for their generosity,” said POC President Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino. “This incentive will significantly aid our athletes in surfing new conditioning and training methods online. It allows them to discover new techniques and fully utilize modern fitness apps to further enhance their training and skills.” With preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics underway, SportsPlus reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its support for Philippine sports and recognizing the athletes who continue to bring pride to the country. “As we look ahead to future international competitions, SportsPlus remains committed to supporting Philippine sports and standing behind the athletes, our modern day heroes, who proudly carry our nation’s flag,” Uy iterated.
