The Key: Social Team Formation, Training, Coaching and Willingness to “PLAY” on Social Media
The Challenge: Help client fill their event in just three weeks.
Many may have seen the recent blog post on the Informs IMPAC 2017 show in Chicago. The INFORMS people came to visit Forward Progress about three weeks before the show and said they needed a short, low-cost campaign to fill their event with paying attendees at the Notre Dame Chicago Campus. This was positioned as the ultimate Social Influencer challenge: with a small budget and very little time, could Forward Progress use their core network to make this event pop and possibly put some butts in seats? Forward Progress first took a close look at their network and talked briefly among their team. They then decided to take on the challenge and gave it a shot leveraging their Social Influencer Event System. Spoiler alert: it was a dramatic success! The highlights are outlined below.
Strategy: Look at the impact and influence of the network
Forward Progress faced the challenge of two networks coming together. FinTech Analytics and Sports Analytics are two different groups, with two entirely different networks. Keep in mind Forward Progress looks at every event like a sporting event, so Forward Progress assembled networks and sub-networks as if they were “Social Teams”, where there are levels of talent and groupings based on each levels’ commitment to the organization and desire for it to succeed, i.e., corporate championship. So, their typical method is to run what Forward Progress calls their “Inside Out” analysis.
Prep work: Forward Progress makes sure, first and foremost, that they connect all of their teams and brands to those associated with the event. Forward Progress also scores all Team Players, both professionals and brands, so Forward Progress knows who the strongest players are – and consequently the ones most likely to participate. As much as they’d like for everyone to participate, they typically get at most a 50% participation rate, though some perform at a higher rate from time to time.
Get the Teams Ready for Play
1. Core Team (Level One) – these consist of the board members. Forward Progress obtains an agreement ahead of time pledging participants’ willingness to play. This is critical. Without this buy-in, it does not work.
These board members allowed Forward Progress to train them on how to leverage social media and how to interact using content. The Social Jack™ Influencer Team Training keeps it simple and easy for busy people to play the game and it’s proven to be highly effective. Board Members also agreed to connect Forward Progress to the next level of the network, the speaker team.
2. Speaker Team (Level Two) – The speakers Forward Progress connected to the board members (Team One). Forward Progress worked to have them reach out and ask the Speakers to interact with their content. Forward Progress then also provided their online coaching sessions for all clients and subscribers so they had a place to go.
3. Sponsor Team (Level Three) – Sponsors typically are invested, however many do not know how to play socially. Forward Progress had the board members with the best relationships personally contact the sponsors and ask them to participate. Some even sent email blasts in addition to social posting and engagement.
4. Connected Influencer Team (Level Four) – This is their “secret sauce”. Forward Progress finds the “influencer players” in their network and selects them based on the type of event, audience, etc. In this case, Forward Progress reached out to everyone — from media contacts related to sports and everyone they knew in FINTECH. Forward Progress wound up with a team of about 35 people of which about 20 actively participated. There was a great variety of participation, ranging from emails to social media placement of banner ads to attendance.
Time to Play
Once Forward Progress had team connections and agreements in place, it was really time to get into gear. As soon as Forward Progress had the board trained, they then mapped out their messaging with emails, social media and advertising. Forward Progress had to move fast since they had a short promotion window and very little time for testing. Forward Progress created content calendars and sent those out to all the team players that they had trained and those that had agreed to participate online.
Ongoing Coaching Support
In their weekly Social Jack™ coaching sessions, Forward Progress provides unlimited support for all clients and students. This means if they want to understand LinkedIn more, Forward Progress teaches that. If they want to play more on Twitter, Forward Progress teaches that. Whatever they need, Forward Progress is there to help them. This way they never feel alone in the game, and for many this is a new game for them.
Outcome: 85 Attendees for a paid event!
Conclusion
Consider looking into Forward Progress when planning upcoming social influencer events.
