Swimmer Kim Woo-min avoids surgery on injured shoulder, set for rehab

Olympic swimming medalist Kim Woo-min will not need surgery on his injured left shoulder as originally feared, his agency said Monday, with the 25-year-old set for a rehab to prepare for next year's world championships. An official with All That Sports said Kim went through tests after the recent Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, where he competed through partially torn labrum and rotator cuff, and doctors concluded that the swimmer will not require surgery after all. Instead, Kim will be tested after every two or three weeks as he goes through rehab and low-intensity training, the official added. Kim is the 2024 Olympic bronze medalist in the men's 400-meter freestyle event who also won three gold medals at the 2023 Asian Games. At this year's Asiad, Kim competed through his injury in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay and helped South Korea take bronze on Sept. 21, before aggravating shoulder issues in the men's 1,500m final the next day. Kim still raced in the heats for the men's 4x100m freestyle relay on the morning of Sept. 24, with South Korea going on to win silver in the final. Kim did not

No Korean left in MLB postseason with Kim Hye-seong off Dodgers' NLCS roster

No Korean player remains in the ongoing major league postseason with the Los Angeles Dodgers having left infielder Kim Hye-seong off their 26-man roster for the National League Championship Series (NLCS). The Dodgers have opted to carry 13 pitchers, one more than during the National League Division Series (NLDS) against the Atlanta Braves last week, with left-hander Justin Wrobleski joining the roster. Kim, who appeared in one game against the Braves as a defensive replacement, was the odd man out. The Dodgers opened the NLCS with a 2-1 loss against the Milwaukee Brewers on the road at American Family Field in Milwaukee on Sunday (local time). Last fall, Kim was on the Dodgers roster as a big league rookie during their run to their second straight World Series title. No Korean player has won back-to-back World Series championship rings. Kim played in 71 regular-season games last year but was limited to just 43 games this year. He spent almost all of the season's second half in the minors before the Dodgers recalled him at the end of September. Kim batted .259 with five steals this year, c

Bears manager moving starter Logue to bullpen for KBO postseason

Doosan Bears manager Kim Won-hyong announced Monday his American starting pitcher Zach Logue will pitch out of the bullpen during the upcoming Korean baseball postseason. With one final regular-season game left Monday evening, the Bears have long clinched the fifth seed in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) and a spot in the wild card round. It will start Wednesday against the No. 4 seed — either the Kia Tigers or the LG Twins, who were to play each other Monday with the winner grabbing the third seed and the loser finishing in fourth place. The lower-seeded team will be at a disadvantage in the wild card phase, as it will have to win two straight games on the road. The higher-seeded team, though, only needs a tie or a win in two tries to advance to the next round. With that arrangement in mind, Kim said he saw no point in saving starting pitchers for later rounds, when the immediate goal is to get past the wild card stage. "We have to win two straight games and we cannot afford to get ahead of ourselves," Kim told reporters before hosting the Lotte Giants at Jamsil Baseball Stadium
